Eagleland
EarthBound begins sometime in the 1990s, in the country of Eagleland, a parody of the United States. A young boy named Ness is awoken by a nearby meteorite crash and investigates it with his neighbor, Pokey Minch, to find Pokey's missing brother, Picky.

Foggyland
While trapped with Ness, Paula telepathically instructs precocious child scientist Jeff in a boarding school in a country named Winters in the continent of Foggyland (possibly parodying the United Kingdom or Northern Europe), to rescue them, prompting Jeff to escape the school with the assistance of his friend Tony.

Happy Happy Village
On his journey to visit the sanctuaries, Ness stumbles upon Happy Happy Village, a village inhabited by a cult of hooded men in blue robes who worship the color blue.

Winters

Form of religion established by Carpainter, and up until early in the game, possess their own village in Peaceful Rest Valley. The cult worships the color blue, as evidenced by their mission to paint "everything in the world blue" and their chanting of "Blue, blue, blue" several times a day, and even once before their bedtime.
